Winter in some parts of the country seems to hang on for months. Even when the calendar is showing it to be spring, the weather is still cold and damp, with limited sunshine getting through the clouds. This can wreak havoc on our skin, our health and our overall well-being. Not being able to spend time outside is unhealthy, so even in the dead of winter; you should try to spend a few minutes outside each day. Ideally, you will be able to get some exercise in and breathe in the fresh air, but if the weather is snowy and the temperatures are low, this is not the most fun thing in the world to do. It can even be dangerous when temperatures and wind chills dip really low. If you feel blue and your health is not at its peak during the winter, you are likely to not look your best. Luckily, there are things you can do to boost your appearance, even in the dead of winter. Tanning lotion can give you some color when you would otherwise be pasty and white. Tanning lotions are not bad for your skin either, like sun exposure.
If you are feeling like your appearance has grown dull over the winter, add some color to your hair. Many people have a winter and a summer color that are just a few shades different. You can brighten up the hue with highlights or lowlights. If you are feeling really down in the dumps because of the winter blues, you can make a drastic change with your hair color. If you are going to really change things up, be sure to consult a professional stylist for coloring tips.
Sometimes the best way to brighten up your mood during the dead of winter is to go shopping for some new clothing. During the dead of winter, you can find great sales on clothing that you will only be wearing for a few more weeks. Winter clothing usually goes on clearance sale mid-way through the season, so you can treat yourself to new things you can wear immediately. Since spring clothing hits the stores mid-way through winter, you can pick up a few pieces that will be ready and waiting for you once the temperatures are on the upswing. Hang a few spring and summer pieces in your closet that you can see each time you open the doors.
One of the best ways to feel and look better when things are getting you down is to get in a good workout. Hitting the gym will boost your energy level and your mood. You will feel healthier and after a few workouts, you will start to notice an improvement in your appearance.
Finally, remember to drink plenty of water during the winter months. This can be a challenge because when it is cold, you will crave warm beverages like cocoa, coffee and tea. However, keeping yourself well-hydrated with water is a must if you want to look and feel your best all season long.
